Selection Process

The Policies and Procedures statement must be read and agreed to by both prospective players and their parents prior to participating in the try out process. This is important so that the participants understand the commitment they are potentially entering.

The prospective players must live in the Bellevue High School attendance area. It does not matter if a player’s siblings attend Bellevue High School as an out of area attendee. There are no exceptions to this unless the program cannot field an adequate number of players.

Publicity concerning the tryout dates will begin in early September. Vehicles of publicity will vary, but they typically include letters to past participants, both selected and unselected to the program, letters mailed to the girls who played in the 5th grade Bellevue Girls and Boys club program, as well as roadside signs by the local elementary and middle schools.

There will be two evening tryouts. It is encouraged that players attend both tryouts. A parent should attend the first evening tryout with the player, in order to sign the necessary release forms and hold harmless agreements along with attending a 15 minutes parent meetings (questions and answers) with the other program coaches. A pre-registration process may be incorporated into the tryout process at the discretion of the Board.

Players are judged primarily on their attitude toward the game, overall athleticism, court awareness, fundamentals, knowledge of the game and their “coachability” (i.e.: ability to follow directions, listen without disruption and take corrective advice.) Coaches for all grade levels evaluate the players, with the grade level coaches having the final decision making approval. The final team is not just the best 12 girls, but the best 12 that make up a well balanced team consisting of some guards, some forwards and some post players.

If a girl is not selected to play for the Club, they are encouraged to try out for other local high school select teams. The Board will release players to other school programs under these circumstances.

Playing on the Club for one year does not guarantee selection to the Club for the following years.
